Three hours sound like way too long to complete a workout. From what I heard, anaerobic workouts should last around 45 minutes and never more than an hour. Working out for three hours straight is going to burn you out. If you are trying to pack on muscle, then I suggest you reevaluate your routine and come up with an exercise plan that can be completed within an hour. When it comes to exercise, more is not necessarily better.

Cardio should be no longer than 45 minutes and weight lifting should be no longer than 12 working sets per muscle group (no matter the length of time it takes...within reason).

3 hours generally means you are either working too many muscle groups, doing too many working sets per muscle group, resting way too long, or using the gym as a social club as opposed to a place of work.

I find cardio to be most effective at 20-25 minutes of HIGH intensity.

You can go 16 working sets on a muscle group if you're wanting to do high volume.

I would prefer 25 minutes tops as well...however, if need be, I will go 45 minutes at a high intensity. In regards to working sets, 16 would be pretty strenuous on that single muscle group only...3 hours of working out would probably be closer to 25 or 30 working sets assuming consistent rate of performing sets throughout the workout...that would be far too many.

Yeah, at least - probably more like 40-50.........

I've had some of my best gains with 16 working sets. I like high volume.........
