I must say that I agree with those who advocate willpower as being essential to weight loss. When my willpower was at its peak, I withstood eating packaged, processed foods and even lost the urge to eat them for awhile so that the diet got easier and I lost 25 pounds that month. However, once I gave in to one cheat meal...all of the cravings came back full force and it is difficult for me to put myself through the sugar, packaged food withdrawal again. I know it works but like was mentioned here already....you have to force yourself to do what you don't want to do and that is recondition yourself not to eat things that are not good for you and push yourself to exercise even if you are already tired from a busy day or you just feel lazy because you feel like resting. There is no rest for the wicked they say so If I want to Rest then I better stop eating sinful foods!

You have to cheat once per week with a full meal or an entire cheat day to continue to shock your body and "trick" it into losing weight...if not, the body will eventually stop using fat stores for energy and look into taking muscle instead...

As a plus, a cheat meal each week gives you something to look forward to so that you don't cheat elsewhere and so that sticking to the diet stays manageable (since you get to engorge yourself once per week) instead of stressful over time.

For most people I would advise only one cheat meal - not an entire day. We diet and work out so hard an entire day is acceptable for us, but for most people, they'd probably be eating more calories that day than they had abstained from the entire rest of the week............
