Wait, let me try to understand this correctly. The correct way is to inhale on lifting or exertion and exhale on lowering or relaxation. Is that right? And reverse breathing is the other way round?

No, it's the other way around. Exhale on the positive (lifting phase) and inhale on the negative. Breathe out when the muscle shortens (concentric) and in when the muscle lengthens (eccentric). So to apply reverse breathing during a pull up you will inhale as you pull your body up towards the bar.

I start doing it two months ago. I learned this technique from a friend of mine who is martial-arts experts. he said that with regular practice, this exercise can strengthen the abdominal muscles, making your breathing naturally strong. I Definitely noticed a boost in my energy levels.
All the best,
