That would be a partial pull up. The full range of motion is not harmful. I'm not sure who told you that but it is complete nonsense. What do you mean by 'for regular thinkers'. None of this post makes any sense...

Agreed; the full range of motion stretches the crap out of the lats and puts much more resistance in regards to muscle stress on the movement...
