On a thread on this board recently someone started a discussion about the benefits of ice baths.
In one of the responses, one reply said that warmth contracted the muscles, while ice relaxed them.
I've found the opposite. When I sprained my ankle, I found ice made the pain and tightness worse. It was the same when I injured my achilles. A physio told me to put ice on it and the pain became worse, but using heat reduced it.
So which is best for a sports injury, ice or heat? and does warmth contract the muscles? I've always thought it relaxes them.
