In the summer months, I swim once or twice a day, and I can lose around 7lbs without really trying. However, alongside that, I am also eating more salads and less high calorie stuff, because the heat affects my appetite. That would seem to underline the point that it's the combination of exercise and healthy eating that leads to weight loss, and that maybe we expect too much from exercise alone.

This is a mind blowing thread. It also explains so much. I'm a big walker, but never dropped much weight. I couldn't understand why. It was so frustrating.

Same here. I had always thought that a walk is good exercise. Now I know better. A walk is still very good exercise, on condition that it's a brisk walk. Up 14 floors. I think that qualifies as cardio. Right?

Burning calories is what most people mean when they tak about boosting metabolism.
Exercise naturally boosts your metabolism because you are burning more than you usually burn so your body is metabolizing food faster.
All the best,
