Text Messaging leads to Poor Spelling and Grammar?

We are now very good at abbreviating almost every word when we text someone. By abbreviating the words, we are able to send messages at a faster pace. I am guilty of abbreviating most of the words that I text. As a result, I tend to misspell words quite often. Luckily we have MS Word to correct all mistakes.

Do you abbreviate your text messages? Do you think that text messaging contributes to poor spelling and grammar?
