Dr Shivani Sachdev Gour talks about the latest reports on low adoptions in Australia

Dr. Shivani Sachdev is a leading name in surrogacy in India. Couples who have tried all other options of having a baby turn to surrogacy. They even prefer surrogacy over adoption as with surrogacy treatment they can have their own biological baby which is not the case with adoption. Adoption rates have declined tremendously over past few years.

Dr. Shivani Sachdev talks about the stooping adoption rates in Australia. Australian Institute of Health and Welfare Show have released alarming figures. In the last financial year, there were only 412 adoptions in Australia. The country is witnessing a downward trend since1970 when there were 8000 adoptions a year. According to Tim Beard, “since families have started accepting kids born out of wedlock, so there are few kids in need of adoption. Increased sex education and better birth control also contribute to the cause”. Other than that enhanced medical technologies like IVF development etc. also result in low adoption rates.

Dr. Shivani also informed that out of 412 adoptions, 31% have known adoptions in which the kids have pre-existing relationship with their adoptive parents. So surrogacy has become more important for Australian couples. There are more than 10,000 couples who want to adopt and it is heart breaking for them to know that they have to wait for another 8 – 10 years. Most of them will not be able to survive the approval process even after spending thousands of dollars. What can be more devastating than that?

All these facts and figures have made everybody feel the need of surrogacy treatment. No wonder people from Australia are turning to India with the hope of having their own biological child in their arms.
