Supplements for Nail-Patella Syndrome (NPS) (also known as "HOOD syndrome")

My wife has a rare genetic disorder called Nail-Patella Syndrome or HOOD Syndrome (hereditary onychoosteodysplasia) that not too many doctors know anything about. When we go to our doctor, he always says to her, "Here's the girl with the disease that I've never heard of."

One of the problems for people with NPS is weak bone density. Her bone density is about 65% of the strength that a 5' 10" tall, 30-year-old female should have. Another concern that NPSers have is kidney failure. Approximately 40% of the people who have NPS eventually develop kidney disease.

What supplement can my wife use to help strength her bones that does not have an adverse effect on the kidneys?
