Rosemary; Spicy Herbal Health

I have always enjoyed using rosemary seasoning in meats and vegetables that I have cooked. It gives the food a nice flavor and is also very healthy in helping protect the body from cancer by means of flavonoids and other antioxidants. Rosemary oil extract contains carnosol and carnosic acid, both being free redicals that have cancer-fighting properties. It is good for your digestive system as well.

Recently, while reading a herbal book it said that rosemary can help pretect against food poisoning.

Supposedly it can kill harmful bacteria. It is said that in hotter climates food is more likely to spoil so that is why people who live in such regions of the world put a lot of spices in their food, and that is why spicy food is the norm in South America and southern regions of Europe.

Rosemary oil is said to kill the types of bacteria that spoil meat. Like Staphylococcus aureus and E. coli. That is a way of protection of food poisoning by spicing up your food with rosemary.

Rosemary is also good for killing different types of viruses and fungi. Even yeast overgrowth can be treated with rosemary oil capsules.

However, again I will add the warning that taking more than recommanded is dangerous, as rosemary oil is toxic if you do not follow directions on labels or don't dilute it. Overdosing can cause kidney damage. Most folks who use rosemary oil capsules, use enteric coated ones and follow the directions on the bottle.

Using rosemary tea leaves is a great way to get health benifits. Put two teaspoons of rosemary leaves in a cup of boiling water, let it steep for 10 to 15 minutes, then strain. Drink up to three cups a day.

Use fresh or dried rosemary in your daily food preperations often for healthy results.
