The Pain Of Shingles

This condition is one of the most painful conditions a person can get. It is a skin rash that begins with burning and itching, or pain in an area of your body, that after a few days becomes much worse with blisters and rash appearing. It has a tendency to make a ring around your belly area or your chest area, but can also affect the neck and lower back, forehead and eyes.

The blisters last a few weeks before crusting over and healing. However, the pain of in having shingles can continue long after the blisters are gone.

It is said, shingles are caused by herpes zoster, the virus that causes chicken pox. And that the virus can be hiding in your spinal nerves for years. you cannot catch this virus from someone else unless you never had chicken pox. I think that is very interesting. The treatment is a drug called acyclovir (Zovirax), which helps to ease the symptoms of this disease. Sometimes people use cold cloths or wet dressings to the affected areas. Friends, who have had it tell me they used coldness because it was soothing, where as heat made it worse. Some calamine lotion can help, as well as, and taking aspirin.

It is said Vitamin E & C, can help in the treatment. A friend of mine was suffering from this illness and found the pain to be more than he could stand as he had it on his chest and in his mouth, and he was unable to eat because the pain was so bad and ended up in the hospital. This is another disease the medical profession needs to find a cure for or a way to prevent it. Anyone ever suffer from this condition? Want to share your experiences? Your welcome to add your thoughts on this subject.
